The CLAD Process
Metal powders are injected into the CLAD nozzle to create a uniform jet. The powders melt as they move across the laser beam, this results in a uniform and dense deposit with technical properties akin to parts produced by forging and founding processes. The deposited material is protected locally against oxidation by a neutral gas.

At the forefront of technological developement
This method has been developed over the last 10 years. It is the product of a research and development project, managed in partnership with Strasbourg’s university laboratories. No less than three theses were needed to bypass the various technical obstacles. BeAM’s range of CLAD machines comes from implementing three building blocks, which are essential to the smooth running of the process.

The process: development of a range of nozzles combined with high-level laser expertise

The software: development of specific software based on the DELCAM suite, the leading CAD/DTP software

The machine (4 functional industrial prototypes were constructed before our current machine)

The development of these three building blocks by IREPA LASER’s allow BeAM to exploit the CLAD process to an industrial advantage, and above all, is conducive to the development of new processes, through the modification of one of the three components to further the innovation process.
